Julie, 46, works full time at Scalby Secondary School, but has always felt passionately about the lack of support she’s received over the last 10 years since her lumpectomy. Julie said,
“I was a young breast cancer patient, and was given very little information about the changes to my breasts and the type of bras I should wear. I’ve always wanted to help others who are experiencing similar surgery, so when I found the Bra Lady network, I decided to set up my own business covering East & North Yorkshire.
“The training day taught me so much! Having been very uncomfortable which has affected my self-esteem these last 10 years, I walked out of the fitting room feeling like a totally different person!
I really can’t believe how much difference a good fitting bra has made to me. I’m now ready to help other women feel good about themselves, even if they’re feeling awful with cancer treatments.”
Julie runs a home bra fitting service across East & North Yorkshire, currently offering soft cup bras and mastectomy bras. Julie has been fully trained and is supported through the franchise Bra Lady network.
At the moment Julie works part-time on her business, and visits nursing homes, hospitals and women in their own homes. Julie said, “Having someone come to your home when you’ve just had major breast surgery is fantastic. I really wish it had been available to me, even a few years ago! The breast care nurses have welcomed the service, and I’m looking forward to supporting women across the area.”
Customers are also happy with the service which is growing quickly across the UK. Ms K said:
“I have been looking to get a bra for some time but hate going into shops and getting changed and trying on several bras that don’t fit. So instead I gave the Bra Lady a call and she came to me with a large selection of bras and I ended up buying four bras that were reasonably priced and really nice. Wish I had done it sooner.”
