Bra fitters :  Supporting You… Through life

Tracey-Jane Hughes

When you’ve got a passion to help others but don’t have the technical skills or knowledge you know you need to really help them, what do you do?

That’s exactly how I started being a bra fitter back in 2004. I had a passion to help other women who I didn’t want to experience what I had – a bra that fitted one week and not the next ☹ I had a vision for supporting pregnant and breastfeeding women in comfortable and supportive bras and I set about doing it. Within 6 weeks I’d done my training and had seen my first customer. It was quite a whirlwind, but a fun one! 😉

I grew bras4mums from that first fitting and sold it 10 years later to focus on training and supporting bra fitters to support women find the right style of bra to suit them.

Since that first training and fitting which I remember so clearly I’ve had experience of:

Bra fittings for all ages, shapes, sizes and styles including mastectomy and post surgery, sports bras, teen bras, soft cup bras, underwired bras, plus size bras, petite bras, maternity bras and nursing bras

  • Setting up and running a home bra fitting service
  • Creating an online lingerie shop
  • Running a lingerie retail shop with a staff team
  • Bra fittings at busy retail shows
  • Training bra fitters in all styles and types of bras
  • Training bra fitters in house at their large retail store
  • Bra fitting at a brand launch with a team of independent bra fitters I recruited
  • Coaching business owners to set up their own business
  • Supporting business owners to grow and develop their lingerie business
  • Working with a range of suppliers across the lingerie industry from bra conception to manufacturing

I’ve captured a lot of my story in my first book, Passion is not Enough, which helps business start ups and those looking to grow their business to think about each step of their business growth.

If you’re ready to start your own lingerie business in a shop or from home, I’d love to hear from you. What are your plans? What stock are you going to have in your range? What’s your vision for women in your area?

Bra fitting is fabulously rewarding career and if you’ve got a passion to help other women, I know you’ll find a way to make your business work. If you’d like some training or coaching to get you started, or to help you stay on track, get in touch. I work on a 1-1 basis with each business so you can focus on what’s right for your business with my support.

After taking on our first retail space I decided to sign up for the Bra Lady fitting course. The course taught me everything from how to fit a bra to the important factors of breast health. T-J answered all of my questions in a helpful and professional manner and is a very knowledgeable woman with years of experience within the lingerie industry.

The course was perfect and I signed up for the more advanced course which covered fitting maternity, nursing, teenage and mastectomy in great detail. My boutique had only been open for 6 weeks and the courses covered every person that came to Raine & Bea for a bra fitting.

I would highly recommend both courses to all lingerie boutiques and stores.”
